Gina and Mark are fine hosts, willing to accommodate late arrival and help with anything.*

Wonderful view of Bras d’Or Lake, Autumn colours across the way, sunrises plus interesting configurations of fog.

Exceptionally clean and well-stocked with linens, towels, kitchen items and there is abundant storage for clothes in bureaus and closets. There’s a standing fan and extra blankets so one can be cooler or warmer whatever the weather. Spacious kitchen and living room with comfortable sofas and chairs, including those outdoors.

TV, internet and streaming options include international channels.

It’s centrally located for Celtic Colours – venues within 95 minutes drive.

Lots of maps and pamphlets in the living room in case you need more ideas for one’s tourist ‘duties.’

We would have appreciated better lighting outside cottage 1 for our late night returns, or a light colored strip at the edge of the veranda and on each step.

We hope to be back.

*Yes, I did load up on Umbra starfish bathtub hair catchers on our way home. Thanks!

Swimming in the Bras d'Or

I loved having “my own” cottage for four weeks and being able to swim daily

without driving anywhere. Having spent all my summers in Boularderie at our family

place for decades, this place is like home for me. Looking forward to next summer!

An absolutely wonderful experience

My family and I had a wonderful stay at View of the Sea Cottages in September 2023. We stayed in Cottage #1 and found it roomy and comfortable – we felt right at home. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived, and there was even a welcome sign on the window, which was so nice to see after two days’ travelling from Ontario! The kitchen and bathroom were well equipped with anything we might have needed, and the beds were comfortable for sleeping. Internet connectivity was reliable and the TV had lots of channels and streaming services.

The view down the hill from the cottage was breathtaking and I loved seeing the fog drift in from the ocean. Sydney and North Sydney are nearby, as well as the Cabot Trail, which has lots of interesting shops and restaurants (and gorgeous views of the ocean). We visited Cape Smokey one day and took the gondola up to the top of the mountain, but we couldn’t see much because of the fog – it was fun anyway! I also took one of my kids into Sydney to see the cruise ships that had docked. We wanted to take a boat tour to see the puffins but unfortunately were a little too late in the season – apparently the puffins leave by mid-August.

Mark and Gina were welcoming and hospitable, and clearly work hard to ensure that guests enjoy their time spent at View of the Sea. We will definitely visit again, a little earlier in the summer next time! Thank you so much, Mark and Gina 🙂

Mark and Gina were great hosts doing a little extra for us because of a medical cancelation the year before. The cottage was compact but had all we needed while we toured and attended Celtic Colours Festival. A good centralized location. Easy access to amenities in North Sydney as well as Hank’s Farmer’s Market. Great to sit out on the deck or lawn with that awesome view.

We have been staying in cottage 3 at View of the Sea Cottages for 25+ years and have booked again for 2024. We have found View of the Sea very central to all of the attractions Cape Breton has to offer. Its setting with a spectacular view of Kelly’s Mountain and the Bras d’Or Lake is priceless. Mark & Gina are perfect hosts with every detail covered. The cottage is exceptionally clean and very well-equipped. The deluxe and well-maintained BBQ on the deck is a bonus. We highly recommend these facilities!
